GETRUDE GLASSHOUSE, 24 JANUARY + 25 JANUARY 2023, 4:00-8:00 PM

Abject, rotting, awkward, manufactured, controlled, uncomfortable, acted, fake + trying/attempting w/ some beauty thrown in.

Performers shuffle through the cage that is ‘240123250123’ over and over until perfect.

Performed at Contact High, 2023 presented by Gertrude Contemporary and Performance Review.

By: Gabriella Imrichova
Performers: Anika De Ruyter, Mara Galagher and Sophie Gargan

'240123250123' (2023) is a durational work composed of an OCD-like 23-minute score of superfluous specificity. This score is looped over and over until perfect. The performers are bored. They count to 20 Mississippis in their heads. One scratches their nose; 7 Mississippis later, another adjusts their sleeve. Mara pushes Sophie up against the wall. Both are unsure of what they are doing. Mara and Sophie look at each other and then begin counting. At 10 Mississippis, Mara fixes Sophie’s fringe, gently guiding a strand of hair behind her ear. They hold for 3 Mississippis and then function out.

Mara: Over there,

Anika: over there on a pane of glass

Sophie: there's a small

Mara: small crack - almost imperceptible. Unremarkable, really. So much so- so much so unremarkable - I might actually just be making this shit up

tiny pause

Anika: and iiiiiiiiiiii would rather die

Sophie: than make this shit up

tiny pause

Mara: It is obviously of no value to my personhood. I just thought I would flag it

Anika: I guess it was just

Sophie: a matter of time

Tiny pause

Mara: mm

Anika: mm

Sophie: *goes to say “mm” but doesn’t say anything*

ALL do a small in sync, barely legible sigh.
